Maat (Ma Ott) originated in ancient Egypt.  Banneker CEO and Founder Derrick Holmes is a self-proclaimed Egyptologist and that inspired the naming of this watch.

Maat represents the 42 basic ethical and moral principles that every Egyptian citizen was expected to follow throughout their daily lives. They were expected to act with honor and truth in manners that involve family, the community, the nation, the environment, and the gods.  Maat predates the Ten Commandments by more than 2000 years but encourages many of the same basic principles.  

In the Duat, (the Egyptian Underworld) the hearts of the dead were said to be weighed against her single "Feather of Maat.”  This is why hearts were left in Egyptian mummies while their other organs were removed, if the heart was found to be lighter or equal in weight to the feather of Maat, the deceased had led a virtuous life and would go on to Arus.

Live an Honorable and Virtuous Life and you will be Rewarded.  Both the case and the bracelet are crafted from Wenge Wood (imported from Mozambique) and feel "Light as a Feather" on your wrist.  Due to it's natural porous nature, Wenge Wood has a beautiful weathered look right out of the box and each Maat is completely unique because of the different wood grains and textures.  The metal buckle is Stainless Steel and accents the 100% genuine wenge wood design.  This watch is available in both 44mm (His) and 38mm (Hers) sizes.  Links are removable for sizing - can be done at any watch shop/jeweler or at home using a link removal tool.  With the provided links this watch should fit wrists 8.5" in circumference or smaller.          

Due to the Natural Wood this Watch is Not Waterproof and should not be submersed in Water for any length of time.
